Ann Deaton

The last stitch has been sewn, the last flower watered and the last pan of homemade bread baked. Ann Thelma Deaton passed away on Sat., Jan. 13, 2018 at the Augusta Health and Rehabilitation, Augusta, WI.
Born on July 11, 1936 to Eda (Johnson) and Wilbur Sowers, she was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Church in Story City, IA. While attending Story City High School, she was active in FHA, played girls’ basketball and graduated in 1954. Through 4-H, Ann discovered many of her lifelong passions such as sewing, gardening and making bread.
Ann met Richard L. Deaton at the Boone County Fair. They were married on June 19, 1955. While Dick was stationed overseas with the U.S. Army, Ann worked in a factory which produced stuffed animals. After Dick completed his time in the service, they farmed on Ann's grandparent's farm until they moved to Ludington Township in Eau Claire County in 1961. They owned and operated Dixanal Farm. In addition to being involved on the farm, Ann raised vegetables, fruits and flowers, froze and canned food, sewed for her family and others as well as refinished furniture and woodwork. She was involved in the Ludington Homemaker's group, sang in the Augusta United Methodist Church choir, served on various church committees, was a 4-H leader and enjoyed square dancing. In 1988, Ann and Dick moved to Augusta. For about 25 years, Ann was employed as a home health care worker. Ann attended many of her family's events, especially athletic events and 4-H fairs. She remained active in her church, the United Methodist Women, Homemakers and the Augusta FFA Alumni. She often made bread, participated in swimming classes at the high school and made cards at the Augusta Senior Center.
Ann is survived by her children: Alan (Kim Schwartz), Ellsworth, WI; Denise (Scott), Tolzman Dodgeville WI; Dianne (Rick) Vielhuber, Poynette, WI; and Debbie (Keith) Kitchen, Augusta, WI; grandchildren: Jenny (Ben) Stone, Eric Deaton, Ben (Jackie) Deaton, Carissa (Jesse Backhaus) Tolzman, Zachariah Tolzman and Kevin Kitchen; great-grandchildren: Gabe Stone, Waylon Deaton, Dane and Snow Deaton. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and in-laws, brother Paul Sowers, brothers-in-law Gerald Deaton and Morris Anderson, sister-in-law Mary Deaton and niece Elizabeth Anderson.
A visitation and a celebration of life was held Mon., Jan. 22, 2018 at the Augusta United Methodist Church with Pastor Jen Barnet officiating. Burial was in the West Lawn Cemetery in Augusta.
