Armond Wier

Armond Wier, 79, of rural Otter Creek Township, Augusta, passed away suddenly while working on his farm Wednesday evening May 24, 2017.
Armond Jerome Wier, son of Lloyd and Amanda (Brenengen) Wier was born Oct. 26, 1937 in Galesville, Wisconsin. He grew up in Little Tamarack, and was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Armond graduated from Gale-Ettrick High School in 1956. In his youth Armond worked for various farmers, he hauled can milk, and also picked apples at Kaste and Sacia’s Orchard.
Armond was united in marriage to Kay Louise Culbertson on April 18, 1964 at Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville. The couple began their life together in Galesville and Winona, before renting a farm in Tamarack. They eventually purchased a farm in Centerville, where they raised beef cows and pigs while also working at Madison Silo Company. In 1977, they moved to their current dairy farm in OtterCreek Township, rural Augusta.
Armond was a farmer thru and thru, loving all aspects of the lifestyle, breathing and dreaming farming. He was tremendously organized and diligent with his record keeping. He was good with numbers, he planned ahead, and he kept a daily journal; all of which helped him to become a successful farmer. Armond was fond of working with tractors; with John Deere’s being his favorite, but he also took a liking to sporty cars in his youth.
He was the oldest of 12 children and deeply loved his siblings, as they were a very close-knit family. Time spent visiting with his siblings and the family sing-alongs were very special to him. This love for family flowed over onto his wife Kay, his 3 children and their families. He enjoyed all their many times together, especially playing checkers with the grandchildren. Armond took pleasure in eating sweets and was very partial to his wife’s apple pies. He enjoyed picking apples as he knew a pie would soon follow. He also looked forward to his one Coke a day.
Due to health issues he had to slow down, but still took care of his steers, dogs, and cats. He tended to a garden and his lawn meticulously. He had raked his lawn this year and had already pruned the raspberry bushes and planted the garden. After 52 years of marriage, Kay passed away on Oct. 19, 2016. Armond missed her dearly, but was learning and adjusting to the house work and taking care of himself.
Armond had been a member of the Teamsters Union, had served on the AMPI Board, and the Tri-State Breeders Board, and had served as a DHIA Delegate.
Armond’s Lord and Savior was with him all his life. He read his bible daily and trusted in his Savior. He was a supportive and faithful member of the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church. Throughout all the hardships in his life; surgeries, health issues and death, he stayed true to the Lord and took comfort in knowing Him.
Armond will be dearly missed by his 3 daughters, Diana (Michael) Symitczek of Centerville, Lisa (Kenneth) Chegwidden of Mauston, Laurel (Wayne) Nicholson of Hudson; son Lance (Katie) Wier of Foster; 10 grandchildren, Kayli and Hannah Chegwidden, Averi and McKenzie Nicholson, Alayna, Lance Jr., Aurora, Breanna, Ariel and Cameron Wier; 2 brothers Leon (Eileen) Wier of Ettrick, Leland (LaVonne) Wier of Galesville; 9 sisters, Janet (Bernie) Las of LaCrescent, MN, Sondra (William) Brust of Minneapolis, MN, Rosalie (Leroy) Stadtler of Caledonia, MN, Marie (Robert) Thill of Ettrick, Mary (David) Tjerstad of Blair, Terry Thompson of Ettrick, Franacee (Roger) Instenes of Ettrick, Karmon Everson of Blair, Rosanna (William) Larsen of Wauzeka; and their families. He is also survived by Kay’s siblings Robert “Butch” (Kathy) Culbertson of Whalen, MN, Connie (Phil) Carter of Green Valley, AZ, Karen “Cookie” (Kermit) Bormann of Rochester, MN, Sandy Sampson (Kerri) of Harmony, MN; their families, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife, Armond was also preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter Leitha Wier.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2017 at the Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church, and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2017 at the church.
