Cynthia Ann Barber
Cynthia Ann Barber, 67, of Eau Claire, died on Sunday, April 2, 2017, after a short battle with liver cancer. She wrote the obituary that follows.
Cynthia was fortunate to have had a good life, despite some tribulations. Born February 22, 1950, the only child of Bootie (Robertson) and Eddie Barber of Osseo, she graduated from Osseo High School, UW-Eau Claire, and UW-Stevens Point.
In earlier years Cyn loved downhill skiing, hiking in the mountains, inline skating, and bike riding. A believer in life-long learning, she loved to read and enjoyed taking and teaching numerous classes. She was thankful to be able to travel; her favorite places were Italy and Australia. In recent years Cynthia enjoyed volunteering at Beaver Creek Reserve, the Humane Association, Literacy Volunteers, and Learning in Retirement.
Cyn’s first real job in 1973 (as a speech and language therapist) was in Montana, where she had many fun adventures and activities. She loved Montana so much she stayed for 19 years, most in Billings. For a few years she owned a small retail store in Billings, which generated amusing stories and exasperating experiences! Back in Wisconsin she returned to speech therapy, serving Osseo-Fairchild Schools for 16 years.
Charming Red Lodge, Montana was the site of Cyn’s wedding, on a mountainside with cow pies in the field. The marriage didn’t last, but the mountain endures. She always expected to marry again, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.
She enjoyed spending time with her beloved pets.
Many generous, supportive, and fun friends survive Cynthia; she was grateful for them all! Also surviving Cynee are several dear cousins spread around the country and her aunts: Jeanne Langner, Rice Lake, WI; Merri Burns, Baker, Montana; and Joanne Sowula, Hammond, Indiana.
