David Erwin Steinke, 73, of rural Osseo, passed away Monday, January 22, 2018 at Dove Healthcare-West in Eau Claire.
Dave was born on June 2, 1944 to Rudolph “Bud” and Verda (Ketchum) Steinke in Wheeler, WI. He attended Albertville, Hall and Truax Country Schools and Augusta High School. Dave was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ludington. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in June of 1968.
Dave was united in marriage to Judith Smith on July 16, 1966 in Fall Creek, and to this union their 3 sons were born. Dave and Judy started their married life together in Bell Gardens, CA and shortly there after moved to New Pont, MN, before eventually settling in the Eau Claire area. After his discharge from the Navy, Dave worked factory jobs and as an over the road truck driver. The last 16 years before retiring he drove dump truck for Allied Blacktop where he was known as “Pop-a-top”. In his free time Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
Dave is survived by Judy, his wife of 51 years; sons, Donald (Dyan) Steinke of Osseo, Michael (Leslie) Steinke of Eau Claire, Kevin (Stella) Steinke of Osseo; 9 grandchildren, Danyelle Steinke (Lance Stensen), Dakota Steinke, Jarica-Le and Reegan Steinke, Ryder Hadt, Brittney and Brandon Lucas, Dylin (Lexi) Steinke, Riley Steinke; 2 great grandchildren, Brycen Mead and Averi Jean Thompson; half sister Patricia (Chuck) Van Blaricom of Osseo; 2 step-sisters, Ginger (Dave) Fleming of Woodbury, MN, Nancy Waite of Cleghorn,; step-brother Jerry (Mary) Green of Elk Mound; mother-in-law Geneva Smith of Fall Creek; several nieces, nephews and four legged friend Bella.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents; brother Dale Steinke; half brothers, Merlyn and Richard Weigel; sister-in-law Norma (Weigel) Swanson; step-mother Leona Steinke; step-sisters, Sandra Zastrow and Diane Kelly; father-in-law Lawrence Smith; foster brother Alan Colburn; and beloved pug Kosmo.
A visitation will be held Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Osseo. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church with burial in the spring in Thompson Valley Cemetery, rural Augusta. The family is assisted by the Anderson Funeral Home in Augusta.
