MICHAEL THOMPSON

Michael Joseph Thompson, 71, of Osseo, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at MCHS-Eau Claire while surrounded by his family,
Mike was born March 8, 1945 to Norman and Gladys (Austad) Thompson of Blair. He grew up in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1963. He ventured to California and worked for a short time. Upon his return to the Blair area he joined the Army National Guard. After completing his training, he met his future wife Kathryn Sielaff. They were married on September 18, 1965 at Bruce Valley Lutheran Church in rural Strum. They met on the dance floor and continued dancing throughout their marriage.
After moving to Osseo in 1968, Mike worked as a meat cutter at Osseo Super Valu and later for Link Brothers Meats in Eau Claire. In 1976 he started working in the welding supply business with Randall-Graw Co. He eventually returned to meat cutting and retired from Sam’s Club.
Mike loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards, the Packers and western movies.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Kathryn; three children, Craig (Jennifer) Thompson of Eau Claire, Kayla (Steve) Schaefer of Whitehall and Cory Thompson of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Samantha and Nathan Thompson, Kelsey and Hailey Skoyen and Mollie Thompson. He is further survived by three sisters, Alta (Roger) Fuchs, Joany Stenberg and Glenda (Mike) Berg, all of Blair and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Gladys and a sister Bonnie Thompson.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 2, 2016 at Osseo Evangelical Lutheran Church in Osseo with Rev. Terry Lorenz officiating.
