Augusta teachers receive boost

The Augusta Senior and Community Center donated $1,250 to the Augusta School District on Sept. 15.

Bill Connelly, the President of the Board of Directors of the Augusta Senior and Community Center, presented the check to Superintendent Ryan Nelson. Connelly said this donation is just one way the community supports the school district.

“This community is so good at supporting the students and families of the district,” Connelly said. “We felt it was a good idea for us to show our support for the wonderful teachers of the Augusta School District.”

Many of the center’s board members are former teachers or have family members who are or have been teachers. Connelly said the board members began to discuss at a recent meeting the fact that many teachers often pay for budget shortfalls and students’ needs out of their own pockets. This conversation led to the decision to make a $50 donation to each of the teachers in the district.

“We made a similar donation a few years ago when the elementary school had the terrible mold problem,” Connelly said. “We felt so bad when we heard that some of the classrooms had to throw away everything. This is a great community and we are proud to be a part of it.”
