Charles E. Shultz

Charles E. Shultz, Chuck or Charlie as his friends fondly referred to him, of Pepin, Wisconsin passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 70 on December 3, 2018, after recently being diagnosed with cancer.
Charles was born on April 9, 1948 in Wabasha, Minnesota to Ford and Ruth (Ficker) Shultz. He graduated from Pepin High School in 1966. His entire 40 year career was spent on the Mississippi River working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. From deckhand to tugboat operator to leverman, his strong work ethic was evident. He was so fortunate to have found a career that he loved.
Charles married Linda Klampe on November 11, 1972. The following year they were blessed with their first child, a daughter, Lori. In 1974, they purchased the grocery store in Nelson, Wisconsin, Shultz’s Superette, and operated it until 1976. In 1977, another child blessed their family, a son, Brad.
In his younger years, Charles was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing and both duck and deer hunting. No one loved a good game of cards more than Charles, and he played both with friends around town and friends online. Some of his favorite times were those gathered with friends shooting the breeze where he was known for his wit, his humor, and his undying support of the Green Bay Packers.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Mike Ostrander, his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Meghan Shultz, along with his grandchildren Spencer Shultz, Eliana Shultz, Vincent Ostrander, and Tanner Ostrander, whom he affectionately referred to as the “Great 8”. He was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a memorial service for Charles at 11:00 am Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand, Wisconsin. There will a time for sharing of stories and memories of Charles during the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
