Charles Edward Notham

On Saturday, November 18, 2017, Charles Edward Notham (Charlie to most) passed away after a brief illness at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was 74. He was the second youngest in a family of six born to Matilda (Weber) and Raymond Notham on December 28, 1942. He grew up in Durand, WI, and graduated from Durand High School. Charlie started working at various body shops after graduating from high school in 1961, and also joined the National Guard. Shortly after marriage to Karleen Robelia on October 12, 1968, they moved to Eau Claire where Charlie continued to work in additional body shops. In April 1973, he started working for Heritage Insurance as an Auto Damage Appraiser in Wausau, later returning to Eau Claire, when Heritage built a new office here, before retiring in 2007. Charlie enjoyed his retirement “working” (volunteering) at the Elks Lodge 402, whether he was Exalted Ruler or the general maintenance and grounds keeper, for 26 years. In his spare time, he spent many hours building and refinishing all kinds of different pieces of furniture. His love of polka music kept him the cheerful person he always was.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis; sister, Patricia Alexson; sister-in-law, Elaine Notham; and niece, Judy Norberg.
His legacy lives on in his wife of 49 years, Karleen; son, Matt (Stephanie); daughter, Angie (Tom) Shay; and granddaughter, Maddy; brother, Don (special friend Sally); sister, Kay (Bill) Joslyn; brother-in-law, Charlie Alexson; sister, Janet (Bob) Neuser; and many nieces and nephews.
He was remembered at his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, November 27, 2017, at 11 am. Visitation was from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass Saturday at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, 2502 11th St. in Eau Claire, WI. Burial followed at Lakeview Cemetery in Eau Claire.
In Charlie’s memory, the family requests donation be made to Elks Lodge 402, 3411 Stein Blvd. Eau Claire, WI 54703, to be distributed for scholarships and veteran’s programs.
We’d like to express sincere gratitude for the care Charlie was given by Doctors Muslim, Tana, Javaid, Gianlupi and the Marshfield Cancer Center Team.

In Loving Memory Dad
Miss You So Much Dad
Softly out of the shadows,
there came a gentle call,
you look the hand god
offered you and quietly left us all
and although we cannot hold you
we will never let you go,
because in our hearts you
will live forever,
because we loved you so.
