Clayton Leon Myers

Clayton Leon Myers, of Arkansaw, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at his home. He was born April 16, 1931 in Porcupine Valley, WI; son of Glenn and Ida Myers. Clayton served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1951 to 1955. He served in the Korea War. In 1952 he met the love of his life. Clayton married Geraldine Pollard two days after being discharged from the Marines, on May 28, 1955. After their honeymoon in the Blue Ridge Mountains they headed to a quaint little town in Porcupine Valley, WI where they farmed and raised 5 children. He was a lifelong member of the Community of Christ Church, he helped mow lawn, or whatever else that needed to be done. For years Clayton was the chairman of Frankfort Township. Many times after a long day of farming he would go out and help plow roads so people could get to town or children to school. Clayton served on the Board of Directors for Farm Credit Services from 1978 to 1993.
Dad was a member of the American Legion Post #181; Dad never missed an opportunity to participate as an honor guard. He would participate in parades, military funerals and anything else he was called on. He loved his country and was very proud to serve.
Clayton was an avid Brewer and Packer fan and loved to watch it on TV. So if you were visiting, well you would be staying awhile. He always knew who was pitching and who had the best batting average. He played softball with cousins and neighbors; they had a team that played in the Plum City League.
Dad and mom loved to travel with friends, Fred and Rosalie Smith. They had lots of fun times with Bob and Lorraine Anderson and Clarence and Anita Kothlow. He loved to play cards with his grandchildren. Recently at Christmas they played for three hours. Dad had a great sense of humor and had a contagious smile, Dad loved the outdoors and as a young man loved fishing and deer hunting, and a squirrel once in awhile.
One of his favorite toys was his gator. He drove his pride and joy all over the valley. He always looked forward to Tuesday since his little sis Jack and her husband Brent would bring Chinese over and they would feast until full. A big thank you to Maynard, Jackie and Brent for faithfully volunteering to take dad every week to dialysis.
He is survived by his children: daughters; Linda and Barry Benedict of Chetek, Amy and Maynard Hubbard of Durand; sons, Jeff and Pauline Myers of Arkansaw, Mike and Lucy Myers of Grantsburg; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Don Myers of Arden Hills, MN; sisters: Janice and Vaugh Girard of Plum City, Jeanette and Dan Richardson of Arkansaw, Jackie and Brent Herbst of Arkansaw. He is preceded in death by his wife, Gerry; his parents Glenn and Ida Myers; son Steve Myers; grandson Eric Myers; sisters, Charlotte Marcks and Iris Simonson.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Community of Christ Church in Arkansaw, WI. Burial with Military rites were held at Arkansaw Memorial Cemetery. To express on-line condolences visit obituaries at www.goodrichfh.com
