Council approves levy, employee compensation in place of raise

In a special meeting held Monday, December 1, the Durand City Council adopted the tax levy.
City Administrator Josh Eggleston reported he got questions answered about missing information on the assessment, and discovered the manufacturing assessment had been removed.
Property value dropped $181,850 in the City of Durand, so the tax rate is set at $6.75 per $1,000, which is up 34 cents from last year.
The Council adopted the 2014 tax levy payable in 2015.
The Council also discussed employee compensation for 2015.
Eggleston presented ideas and impacts of wage increases versus non-monetary compensation.
The Council approved giving employees full holidays on Christmas Eve and Good Friday, as well as no longer counting two personal days against sick time. A wage freeze for 2015 was also approved.
