George Alexander Komro
George Alexander Komro, age 92, died Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at AdventHealth in Durand, WI.
George was born December 25, 1927 in Lima, Pepin County, WI to Alex and Anna (Pfeiffer) Komro. George served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. George married Joan Severson on April 13, 1965. Together they farmed in Arkansaw, had a St. Paul Pioneer Press paper route, and owned and operated Komro’s Bar in Durand. The bar was sold and he retired in January 1999. He enjoyed going to auctions, playing cards and slot machines, and blackberry brandy. George had been a resident at the Plum City Care Center since March 2018.
George is survived by his wife, Joan; son Rodney (Linda) Komro; stepchildren Mike (Sandy) Almsted, Diane Almsted, Judy (Blake) Schultz; siblings Lorraine Green and Lester Komro; sister-in-law Kathy Komro; 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Anna Komro; siblings Louis (Mamie) Komro, Mary (Leon) Peebles, Rose (Richard) Roark, Eldred Komro; brother-in-law George Green; and stepdaughters Linda Almsted and Patricia Hauschildt.
A graveside service with Military Honors is being planned. Interment will be at the French Cemetery, Arkansaw, WI.
