Irene M. Johnson

Irene Marie Johnson (97) of Eau Claire, formerly of Durand, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Our House Senior Living in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. She was born March 9, 1918 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin; daughter of Anton and Louise (Peterson) Hermundson.
She graduated from Nelson High School. Following high school she attended Buffalo County Normal where she received a teaching degree. She taught at North Branch and Nerkey Hill schools. On May 29, 1940 she married Marvin E. Johnson at Lyster Lutheran Church. Together they farmed in Buffalo County near Urne, until retiring in 1989 when they moved to Durand.
In January of 2006 they moved to Eau Claire. Marvin died in January of 2007.They were married for 66 years. She was a member of Lyster Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. Irene enjoyed embroidery, gardening and cooking. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Dale (Myrna) Johnson of Urne, WI; grandchildren, Brian (Brenda) Johnson of Arcadia, WI, Bridget (Kevin) Lauer of Durand, WI, Nathan (Billi Jo) Johnson of Fort Wayne, IN; great- grandchildren, BJ Vetterkind and Ella Johnson; step- great grandchildren, TJ and Daniel Curtis; step great-great grandchildren, Xavier and Knightly Curtis; sister, Anita Ruff and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; sisters, Luella McRoberts, Charlotte Kasenow; and brother, Delbert Hermundson.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Lyster Lutheran Church in rural Nelson, Wisconsin with burial in Lyster Cemetery. Pastor Michael Vetsch is officiating.
