Judy A. Harmon

Judy A. Harmon, age 78, formerly of Menomonie and Arkansaw, WI, passed away Friday, November 16, 2018, at Parkview Care Center, Woodville, WI. Judy was born on May 31, 1940, in Plum City, WI, to Herbert and Melvina (Doughty) Keys. Judy grew up, in and around the Arkansaw area; she graduated from Arkansaw High School in 1958. On June 9, 1960, she was united in marriage to Dennis J. Harmon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Arkansaw. She raised and loved her seven children in Arkansaw before moving to Menomonie in 1994.
Judy worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, from 1958 to 1959, where she met her lifelong friend Carol Rasmusson. After her seven children were in school, she worked as a Postal Clerk in Arkansaw, prior to becoming a Postmaster in 1984; she then transferred to the Downsville Post Office in 1999. In 2002, Judy retired from the United States Postal Service. In previous years, she was also a volunteer EMT.
Judy’s passion through the years was sharing her time and talents playing the organ, piano, and bells at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Arkansaw United Methodist Church, Menomonie United Methodist Church, and Little Elk Creek Lutheran Church. After retirement, she often played the piano at various nursing homes and volunteered for hospice care services. Judy loved to be in the kitchen baking and sewing quilts for family and friends. Throughout her lifetime, she also made many wedding cakes; she enjoyed making beautiful creations for people on their special day, and no endeavor was too small for her. Judy’s generosity touched many lives whether she sent a card in the mail to remember a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or delivered a small gift, or simply offered her time with a visit. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy. She took her grandchildren on vacations and often attended their sporting events and school functions whenever she could.
Judy will remain in the hearts of her children, Jill Saxe of Chippewa Falls, Nicholas Harmon of Griffin, GA, Scott (Cyn) Harmon of Altoona, Eric (Cheryl) Harmon of Baldwin, Christopher (Karen Fenske) Harmon of River Falls, Joy Harmon of Austin, TX, and Jennifer (Krzysztof) Nickowski of Baldwin; grandchildren, Storm (Jenny) Harmon, Kayla (Kai) Hanson, Danielle (Evan) Nyberg, Bailey (Tim) Kleinschmidt, Brooke Harmon, Skyler Harmon, Alexa Harmon, Kira Lane, Elzbieta Nickowski, Jacek Nickowski and Sidney Lane; great-grandchildren, Raiden, Berklee, and Marlee Harmon, Isla and Jetson Nyberg, Brya, Zia, and Lijah Kleinschmidt, Baby Nickowski, and Baby Hanson; brothers, Orin (Mavis) Keys, Brent Herbst, and Tom (Ricki) Breiter; sister, Judie Keck; in-laws, Dennis Dahl, Sandy Herbst, Gary Byington, Diane (Bob) Marier, Nell Harmon, and Barb Harmon; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; special kids, Amy (Rick) Nelson and Jennifer (Karl) Krug; very special friends, Marilyn Yingst, Laurie and Justin Boerner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Melvina Keys; husband, Dennis Harmon; siblings, Jane Byington, Sherry Dahl, and Scott Herbst; granddaughter, Kylie Harmon; and step-mothers, Dahlia Bingston-Keys and Annabelle Braab.
A Gathering of Family and Friends was held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, Baldwin, WI. Memorials are preferred to Adoray Hospice, which gave her grace and dignity in the last chapter of her life, as well as continuing her passions in life which she held dearly in her heart.
