Robert Gaylord Seifert

Robert Gaylord Seifert, age 74, of Bay City, died peacefully Saturday, March 23, 2019 at his home. He was born September 1, 1944 in Corpus Christi, TX to Gaylord and Margaret (Cline) Seifert. His father was a Navy pilot and the family moved several times before returning to Pepin, WI where he graduated high school in 1962. He then attended Buffalo County Teachers College, and went on to University Wisconsin River Falls where he received his degree. On October 5, 1968 he married Nancy Bergstrom at Sabylund Lutheran in Lund, WI. Rob started his teaching career in Red Wing that same year and continued to teach there for 33 years. In 1971 Rob and Nancy bought their hobby farm in Bay City. Seifert Skyways Inc. was started in 1973, where Rob taught flying lessons and was an airplane mechanic. He was constantly getting certified with different types of planes and engines so that he could help others learn. Rob had a passion for flying and teaching others. He was always willing to help someone learn more, whether it be in school or at the airport. Rob was a mentor and friend to many many pilots. He enjoyed working with his hands and solving problems. He was a member of the Hiawatha Valley Pilot Association and Experimental Aircraft Association 1518.
Rob is survived by his wife, Nancy of Bay City; daughter, Shelley Rae (Scott) Glasspoole of Prescott; son, Samuel (Debra) Seifert of Becker, MN; four grandchildren, Anthony Glasspoole, Roman, Evelyn, and Elijah Seifert; siblings Ted (Karen) of Red Wing, Mark (Melody) of Pepin, Lynne (Mike) Cassellius of Glenwood City, WI, Lori (Donnie) Tulip of Pepin, Cindy (Matt) Buvala of Pepin, and Jon (Tracey) of Pepin; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Jeremy Seifert.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 30, 2019 at the United Methodist Church in Pepin with Reverend Lisa Weavers officiating. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing. Burial will take place at a later date.
