Robert K. Brainard

Robert K. Brainard, age 88, of Wausau died Tuesday October 20, 2015 at Tender Reflections, Weston, surrounded by family and under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born March 19, 1927 in Durand to the late Carroll and Fern (Fitzgerald) Brainard. Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy Corps during WWII as a Petty Officer 2nd Class Pharmacist’s Mate. He married Beverly Flynn September 2, 1950 at St Patrick’s in Eau Claire. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Mortuary Science. Robert joined Ritter and Deutsch Funeral Home in 1950 and remained a co-owner until 1978 when he became sole proprietor of then to be named Brainard Funeral Home. He retired in 1996.
Robert was a member of the Knights of Columbus George Schreiner Council #1069, Past Faithful Navigator of Pere Rene Menard Court 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Past President of the Serra Club, Past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #248, member of American Legion Montgomery Plant Dudley Post #10. He was proud to have been a member of the Never Forgotten Honor Flight IV May 2, 2011. Past Member of the Wausau Country Club, Past President of the Wisconsin Valley Funeral Directors Association in 1977, Past President of Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and also a member of Forest Lodge #130 F&AM and Zor Shrine. He was a proud driver of patients to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Minneapolis.
RK was an avid golfer, golfing with his cronies Bernie, Cliff and Rudy at least three times a week. Bob and Bev spent 31 years wintering in Gulf Shores, AL, spending the next 4 years in the Biloxi area to be close to family. His other passion was collecting but most of all driving his Corvettes, traveling to Bloomington Gold and Hot Summer Nights Black Hills Corvette Rally many times and also many instate Corvette/Convertible Rallies.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Brainard, Wausau; children, Scott Brainard (Deb Maly), Sheila Brainard, Jon (Jane) Brainard all of Wausau and Michael (Cory) Brainard of Gulfport, MS; grandchildren, Max (Emily) Brainard of Madison, Andrew Brainard, London, England, Keegan Brainard, Gulfport, MS, Aimee Miller, Hudson; six great-grandchildren, Nevaeh and Chanse Brainard, Henry and Hazel Brainard, and Ethan and Julian Miller.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Jack; and a grandson, Christopher K. Brainard
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, October 26, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church.
Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2025 River Pkwy, Minneapolis, MN 55414 and the Elks Good Fellowship Fund, 414 Scott St., Wausau, WI 54403.
