State wrestlers bring home trophies

    The Durand youth wrestling had a great showing again at the State Folkstyle Wrestling Tournament held at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison on March 25 and 26, 2016.
    Placing 2nd was Autumn Bignell (115# 2001-03 bracket), placing 3rd was Gunnar Hurlburt (185# 2003-04), Placing 4th was Ethan Whitwam (135# 2005-06), and 6th was Jeremiah Wulff (270# 2001-01).
    Autumn started out with a pin, and boasted an impressive win in Madison scoring 17-0 vs. her opponent, sending her to the championship match.
    Gunnar had an exciting first match with a come-from-behind pin in the third period and added two more pins to his hat throughout the weekend.
    Autumn and Gunnar tallied only one loss each via decisions.
    Ethan showed his strength by skunking two opponents 6-0 and 5-0 and also pinning a third.
    Jeremiah won his first match with a 9-2 decision.
    Sadly, Maddy Bauer came down with the stomach flu and was forced to forfeit on the mat.
    Also competing proud and hard at state were Cailey Doverspike, and Eli Whitwam.
