Stephen A. Brunner

Stephen A. Brunner, age 75 of Durand, passed away at home on May 26, 2026, just five weeks after losing the love of his life, Darlene Brunner.
Steve was born on March 23, 1951 at St. Bennedict Community Hospital in Durand. He was the son of Francis J. and Helen C. (Hayden) Brunner. Steve grew up in Durand, attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Durand High School in 1969. After school Steve took a job with Gifford Feed Service, where he worked for several years. Steve married Darlene M. Bechel on October 14, 1972 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Durand. Together they made their home in the Durand area where they raised their family. Steve made a career at the Dariyland Power Plant in Alma where he worked for 29 years retiring as a Materials Controller.
Steve enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, feeding his animals, spending time on the tractor, and watching the birds. Steve liked taking trips with Darlene and their groups of friends. Most of all, Steve had a passion for spending time with family and friends.
Steve is survived by his children, Angie (Todd) Bryan, Jeremy (Melissa), both of Durand and Jenny (Denny) Richardson of Arkansaw, six grandchildren, Hayley (Zach), Drew (Savannah), Tegan (Chris), Canyon, Lincoln (Elle) and Olivia, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Darlene, stepfather, Norman Bilderback, siblings, Roger, Joan Bauer and Linda Stratton.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00PM-7:00PM Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the Rhiel Funeral Home in Durand. A private burial will be held at a later date.
