Roy Schmidt

Roy Bernard Schmidt, 78 of Wabasha, MN, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his home with his family.
Roy was born on January 9, 1948, in Wabasha to Ervin and Christine (Passe) Schmidt. He attended St. Felix High School, graduating in 1966. In September of 1967 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving a four year tour and was honorably discharged on February 28, 1971.
On August 28, 1976, Roy married Sue Meyer and together they built a family that came to include their daughter Hannah and their son Charlie. Roy enjoyed the neighborhood corner parties, playing cards, deer hunting, UTV trips, and chasing the elusive giant pumpkin each year. In his down time he was often found sitting in his chair with the garage door open enjoying the simple pleasures watching the world go by.
Roy retired from Federal Mogul in 2014 after 47 years, first as a molder, then a machinist.
Roy is survived by his wife Sue; daughter Hannah; son Charlie Schmidt; twin sister Brenda Gorgzyca; sisters Jean (Dave) Hielscher and Joanie (Steve) Eastman; brothers-in-law Dave (Elaine) Meyer, Kenny Meyer, Rick (Brenda) Meyer, Larry (Sheila) Meyer, Neil (Patti) Meyer, Jeff Meyer and Scott (Jean) Meyer; sisters-in-law Donna Meyer and Diane Schmidt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Dana Schmidt and brothers-in-law Darrell Meyer and Gale Gorgzyca.
Private family services were held.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1-5 p.m. at the Wabasha VFW.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Felix Catholic Church or the Wabasha VFW.
