Fall Creeek, Osseo-Fairchild vie for Homecoming wins
Both Fall Creek and Osseo-Fairchild prep football teams have their respective Homecoming celebrations this week and their respective Homecoming games this Friday, Sept. 18.
Homecoming is a game a school wishes to have success in or at least a reasonable chance for success and that's true for both Tri-County Area teams this week.
Fall Creek (3-1) hosts Neillsville/Granton (2-2) at 4:30 p.m. today at Schultz Field (the game being moved up due to inclement weather). FC smells a reasonably good chance at victory after winning last week over Stanley-Boyd 39-13 last week Friday, Sept. 11 at S-B while N/G was smashed by Durand-Arkansaw at home 60-7.
The Crickets were in almost perfect alignment on offense. Sophomore quarterback Kouper Salter only completed four passes but they were for 127 yards and three touchdowns. Senior running back Ethan Westrate rushed for 170 yards on 16 carries and a TD. Sophomore wide out Kale Korger caught two passes for 84 yards and a score and senior linebacker Tyler Biegel led the Crickets in tackles with 12, including two TFLs. Biegel also rushed for 69 yards on eight carries as FC rushed for 303 yards. Senior wideout Koen Tumm and junior Braxton Thur also caught TD passes.
Meanwhile O-F (1-3) is hoping that Homecoming will turn their season around as they have lost three straight. They played a competitive contest at Boyceville (3-1) last week Friday, Sept. 11 but didn't not have the juice to comeback from a 20-0 deficit after three quarters and lost 28-6. Junior quarterback Ty Skoyen was 12-for-25 for 113 yards and the Thunder's lone TD. Sophomore running back Daegan Swett rushed for 53 ayrds on 10 carries and junior receiver Reed Cain caught two passes for 37 yards and senior receiver Brooks Koxlien caught five passes for 32 yards and a score. Sophomore Jace Boettcher led the team in tackles with seven, including three solos.
The Thunder go up against a 2-2 Colfax squad in what should be a competitive match-up at Ward Field at 7 p.m. The Vikings were shutout by No. 4 ranked Glenwood City last week 35-0. Like the Thunder, Colfax has underclassmen stepping up to lead the team statistically. Sophomore quarterback Grant DeMoe has throw for 469 yards and four touchdowns while junior running back Jacob Wahl has 419 yards rushing and four scores.
