O-F girls golfers wind down season
OSSEO - The end of the regular season is in sight for the Osseo-Fairchild High School Girls Golf team next week.
The CloverCroix Conference meet is next Thursday, Sept. 24 at Lake Hallie Golf Course. It is an all-day, full 18-hole meet.
But before that meet the Thunder will take part in a league meet hosted by Stanley-Boyd at Whispering Pines GC on Monday, Sept. 21 and the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Invitational the very next day, also an 18-hole meet, at Turtleback in Rice Lake, also the course for the WIAA Division 2 regional meet.
It's been an equally busy last two weeks for the Thunder linksters.
O-F competed in a league meet held at The Valley Golf Course in Mondovi back on Sept. 8. O-F finished second behind No. 6 ranked Colfax/Elk Mound by a 201-207 margin. O-F junior Alexis Ness finished second behind meet medalist sophomore Clara Kongshaug by a 33-42 stroke-margin. Other O-F scores were freshman Layla Leinon, 53; senior Kenna Gruba 55; senior Emma Lyngen 57 and junior Sophie Pernsteiner, 60.
Also that week was the Northwest Claswsic at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax on Sept. 9. Colfax/E< and O-F were 11th and 12th out of 21 teams respectively with scores of 414 and 416 in a meet dominated by Big Rivers and Middle Border Conference squads. River Falls was the winner with an 18-hole score of 369. Still, Kongshaug was the meet medalist with two-over par score of 74 while Ness finished seventh with a score of 88. Other Thunder golfer scores were Lenion 99,. Gruba 114, Emma Lyngen 115 and Pernsteiner 117.
This week Thursday O-F played in a CloverCroix meet in Clear Lake hosted by the Prairie Farm/Clayton co-op. O-F took third with a score of 203 behind Colfax/EM (194) and Bloomer (198) with Ness finishing second again with a nine-hole score of 41,. Kongshaug was the meet medalist shooting a 34. Lenion and Lyngen both shot 52s, Gruba 58 and freshman Laurie Zimmerman 59.
The regional meet is schedule for Thursday, Oct. 1 hosted by C-W. Besides the host school, Altoona, Osseo-Fairchild, Mondovi, Colfax/Elk Mound, Bloomer, Barron and Stanley-Boyd will all be there. Top three teams and top three individuals not on a qualifying team will make it to Sectionals to be held at Luck Golf Course on Monday, Oct. 5
