County upholds parking restriction on section of Old Highway 61 in Minneiska

This view looking east shows the same section of road as on the front page, but with Winona County’s section of Minneiska in the background. The county line crosses Highway 61 (left) at the intersection in the center of the photo.—Photo by Michael Smith

This shot looks west along Bennett Street (County 63) from the county line, at the intersection of Winona County 25 and Highway 61, which is visible at right. This section of Bennett is further east and over the hill at center from the section shown in the other photo. The residents who live above the colorful retaining wall and further west do not have a driveway onto the street, limiting their parking options.

To park…or not to park. That is the question facing Minneiska’s residents who live along Bennett Street, above—the former Highway 61 in Minneiska—and the County Board, who decided Tuesday that for now, at least, parking, like these motorists are doing, would not be allowed on the narrow street.
