AUXILIARY UNIT #179 READY FOR AMERIAN LEGION'S BIRTHDAY
The Plainview American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) Unit #179 is pleased to announce the celebration of the American Legion's 99th birthday.
The American Legion Auxiliary supports programs for veterans and their families and the Plainview ALA will celebrate Plainview's American Legion Post #179 with a birthday dinner on Saturday, March 24th, 2018.
There will be Social Hour at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. that will consist of ham, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, salad, rolls, and birthday cake.
The deadline for the dinner registration is Friday, March 16th, 2018. Please stop in at the Plainview Legion Bar or call 534-3298 to sign up. The cost for the dinner is $10 for non-members.
Special guests who have confirmed their attendance are ALA 1st District President Cheryl Nymann and ALA Department President Donna Arends.
Donna Arends is a 29-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She has been active in her home, Unit # 167 in Willmar, since she joined the ALA. Her eligibility is through her father, the late William Somerville—a WWII Army Veteran.
On the unit level, Donna has held the office of President for a term of two years. She had a break and then accepted a one-year term as President again.
Donna has through most of the 29 years been a Junior Programs Chairman at her Unit, raising all of her children Mark Arends, Michelle Schoolmeester, and Melanie Strong as members of the Unit and SAL.
On the District level, she had her start on the 7th District Executive Committee and went up the chairs to being the 7th District President in 2008-2009.
Chairmanships on the District level include: Junior’s, Membership and Community Service.
On the Department level, Donna has held chairmanships of Children and Youth twice, Veteran Affairs and Rehabilitation, Girls State Committee Member for three years, Membership and Legislation.
In 2015-2016, Donna was elected as the Dept. 2nd Vice President, 2016-2017 Dept. 1st Vice President and 2017-2018 Dept. President.
