Gathering the Neighbors
A warm, classic summer night attracted good crowds to National Night Out events in Plainview and Elgin on Aug. 6.
Kids checked out spiffed-up emergency vehicles, including a 1927 fire truck, swam for free in the swimming pool, and enjoyed hot dogs, chips, root beer floats and music in Plainview's Eckstein Park.
They also picked up bookmarks to take home, and joined adults in coloring a large banner to be displayed in the Plainview Public Library. It reads: "Books aren't made of pages and words. They're made of hopes, dreams and possibilities."
