Glenn August Zabel

Glenn August Zabel, 97, of Elgin, Minnesota passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – Rochester, Saint Marys Campus with his family by his side. He was born on June 26, 1927, in Red Wing, Minnesota to Gus and Otella (Ponto) Zabel. Glenn graduated from Eglin Public Schools. He married the love of his life, Gertrude Veer, on September 27, 1959, in Rochester.
Glenn farmed and lived his entire life in Wabasha County. He enjoyed spending time reading, doing repair work, welding, traveling, and riding his 4-wheeler. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 65+ years, Gertrude “Trudy” Zabel of Elgin; three sons, James (Lisa) Zabel of Garfield, Minnesota, Donald (Kathy) Zabel of Glencoe, Minnesota, and Darrell Zabel of Elgin; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; two nephews; Leon Narvaez (Nancy Paddleford) of Northfield, MN, Eric Narvaez (Wanda) of St. Paul, MN; three nieces; Darcia Narvaez (Daniel Lapsley) of South Bend, IN, Nona Narvaez (Jeffrey Schaefer) of St. Paul, MN and Faith Bothum of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
The funeral service for Glenn will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. The burial will follow the service in Elgin Cemetery in Elgin. Friends and family may visit one hour prior to the service at the church.
