Harvey Hofschulte

Harvey Hofschulte, age 74, passed away on February 27, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his family. Harvey was born in Plainview, MN to Pete and Edith (Herrick) Hofschulte. He was raised in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1962. He married Cheryl (Stevens) Keller on October 5, 1963. Together they had 4 children, 1 son and 3 daughters, and later divorced. He spent the last 30+ years with his significant other, Mary Deming, and together they had a daughter.
Harvey, known as the “Pump Man” started his own well and pump service business, Hofschulte Pump Service in 1974, buying his first pump truck from Clare Wempner who taught him the trade. He retired in 2008 after 34 years in business and sold his business to his nephew, Robert Hofschulte, who learned the trade from him. In retirement, Harvey could be found spending time with his family or his friends, making them laugh. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities, family dinners at Famous Dave’s, and the occasional trip to a casino. He looked forward to and enjoyed his daily visits to the Out of Bounds, playing cards and story-telling, and referred to this time with friends as “group therapy.”
Harvey is survived by his significant other, Mary Deming of Elgin; his son Daren (Tracy) Hofschulte of Elgin, his daughters, Brenda (Brian) Shamblin of Rochester, Kim Hofschulte of Rochester, Tauni (Brad) Tuckner of Rochester, Nichole Hofschulte of Elgin and Carly (Eric Odden) Palmer; his 12 grandchildren, Shawn Hofschulte, Corey and Tanner Hofschulte, Brady, Ty and Logan Tuckner, Brock, Derek, Jake Shamblin, and Hannah (Luke) Carter, Kaelyn Palmer, and Jayden Underwood; and his 2 great-grandchildren, Mason and Lidia Hofschulte; his 5 siblings, Vivian Cranston of Plainview, Bernetta (Harlan) Smith of Albert Lea, Sylvia Green of Plainview, Diane (Curt) Larson of Rochester, and Kevin (Mary) Hofschulte of Plainview; and his many nieces and nephews.
