Monday’s 3M meeting was pretty exciting, and FUN! After the beautiful weekend, the kids really needed to wake up and prove that they were “Alive, awake, alert and enthusiastic” (which I STILL can’t get this dance down)! I guess I will have to practice at home! They then Pledge Allegiance to the flag.
Since it is FINALLY getting warm outside, Mr. Donze addressed some playground rules, as well as enforcing an indoor rule. First things first, slides are for going down, not climbing up. If someone was to be going down just as one is climbing up, they are going to get a foot planted right in their face (a very unpleasant feeling). Another slide rule, no shoving people down the slide. If you are waiting for someone ahead of you, be patient. Pushing someone down the slide could get them really hurt. They could fall off the slide and hit their head, or hurt their back…or any other part of their body. So to recap, 1) No climbing up the slide and 2) No shoving people down the slide. The inside rule enforced was regarding the silverware. The silverware belongs to the school, so no bending it. This was mostly directed at the 3rd graders, but it was also meant for everyone. The silverware can be quite expensive to replace, especially if the school has to replace a lot at one time. You wouldn’t bend silverware at home, so don’t bend it at school.
Next, the 5-2-1-0 group came out to play with the kids. And they did actually play! They brought a giant hula hoop to see who could use it. There were a few students who tried, along with Miss Breyfogle, 1st grade teacher (though I think a couple of the kids had her beat)!
The 5-2-1-0 group discussed calcium this time, and the importance of it - growing healthy bones and teeth. They also talked about the different foods that are good sources of calcium. I think all the kids knew about cheese and milk, but there were a few that shouted out ice cream, which most everyone can enjoy at any time! Even wheat crackers contain a little bit of calcium, and even more if you add cheese! According to the AHA, people are supposed to have 2-3 glasses of milk each day to keep our bones and teeth healthy…and less sugary drinks. They then handed out some water bottles and bottles of water to the winners of the March contest for Zero Sugary Drinks. Next month, they will be giving away a bunch more prizes. Anyone who has filled out a form for any of the 4 contests will be entered to win some great prizes! Even if you didn’t turn one in on time, bring it in and you will still be entered in the drawing!
After the 5-2-1-0 group left, the 3M meeting was ended by singing the “Monday Morning” song in unison.
