Joyce Marilyn Kester Wurl

Joyce Marilyn Kester Wurl, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at the age of 77.

Joyce was born to Clifford and Dorothy Kester on July 15, 1943, in Winona, MN. She grew up on the family farm in Chatfield, MN and then moved to St. Charles, MN where she graduated from St. Charles High School. She married Jesse Wurl on December 14, 1961, and moved to the Wurl family farm in rural Plainview. She spent her time cooking, gardening and helping out on the farm for many years, before becoming a home health aide for Winona County, where she worked until she retired. Later she went on to work as the receptionist for the Plainview and Wabasha Eye Clinics. She also sold Joyce’s Jams & Jellies at local farmers’ markets.
Joyce loved to help others and she lived a life of service volunteering for many organizations. She taught Sunday school, assisted with the Youth Group and served many years at the Community Presbyterian Church in Plainview. She was skilled at caring for people who were sick or in need. She volunteered with the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at the Rochester Methodist Hospital and with the Red Cross volunteer disaster response teams. She traveled to Nicaragua, Mexico and Peru with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (VOSH) to provide glasses for children and adults. Joyce was a member of the St. Charles Women of the Moose and graduated into the Moose College of Regents, the highest honor awarded. She was also a member of the Plainview Lions Club.
Joyce was preceded death by her husband, Jesse Wurl. She is survived by her three children. Son, Gary (Rolo) Wurl of Houston,TX, and grandson Michael (Rachel) and great-grandson, Torin Wurl. Daughter, Diana (Raymond) Moss of Plainfield, IL and grandsons Ty and Cole Moss. Son, Brad Wurl of Plainview, MN and granddaughter Alexandra and grandsons Brandon and Devon Wurl. Sisters Judy (Bernie Sr. ) Shott and Donna Schultz, both of St. Charles, MN.
Joyce loved living on the farm, watching the birds and wildlife, 57 chevy’s, cooking and traveling. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Joyce will be laid to rest next to her husband Jesse in a private family ceremony at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Plainview, MN on Sunday, August 23, 2020, with Pastor John H.G. Curtiss officiating.
