Bernice M. Evers, 90, Wabasha

 Bernice M. Evers, age 90, of Wabasha, died Friday, July 24, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha where she had resided the past seven years. She was born March 10, 1925 in Lake Township of Wabasha County, near Lake City, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Kennebeck) Russell. She attended Killeen School District #6 and McCahill High school in Lake City. Bernice made pistons in Lake City during WWII to help in the war effort. She also worked as a nanny for Dr. Bayley in Lake City. She married Harry Evers, of Wabasha, June 10, 1947 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake City. The couple farmed on Pepin Hill, near Wabasha, until Harry’s death May 17 2008.
 Bernice was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church of Wabasha and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Pepin Hill Women’s Club, the Pepin Hill Farmers Club, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Auxiliary and the Wabasha Senior Citizens. For years every Tuesday evening she played pool and cards with her Pepin Hill friends.
 Bernice dearly loved the farm life. She loved being near her many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed listening and dancing to old time music, taking walks, cross country skiing and she also was a pretty good marksman with the rifle. She was an excellent cook and baker which she enjoyed sharing with family, friends and neighbors. She appreciated and saw beauty in everything and enjoying the little things in life.
 She is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda and Marv Gehling, Grand Meadow, MN, Paulette Klees, Plainview, MN, Jim and Kathleen Evers, Millville, MN, John and Linda Evers, Dave and Jan Evers, Mary Klees, all of Wabasha, MN, Lori and Bob Schmit, Hager City, WI, Alice and Randy Stein, Lake City, MN, Mark and Kim Evers, Oronoco, MN, Heidi Hagedorn, Lake City, MN; 31 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Lucille Meyer, Theilman, MN, Shirley and Ben Roemer, Austin, KY; sisters-in-law, Betty Russell, Lake City, MN, Kathleen Evers, Rochester, MN, Evelyn Evers, Grand Forks, ND, and Myrtle Hawkins, Wabasha, MN; nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry, sons-in-law, Rich and Dan Klees, brothers, Francis “Bud” and Jim Russell and sisters, LaVerne Oslund and Phyllis Klees.
 A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Monsignor Robert Meyer and Deacon John Hust officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Eric Gehling, Isaiah Klees, Tom Evers, Brandon Evers, Matt Klees, Kevin Evers and Alex Hagedorn. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Tuesday from 4-8pm and at the church on Wednesday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center, 626 Shields Ave., Wabasha, MN 55981 or to St. Felix Gymnasium Restroom Building Fund, 117 3rd St. W., Wabasha, MN 55981.
