Bob Koenig

 Robert E. “Bob” Koenig, age 85, of Lake City and formerly of Wabasha, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Mayo Health System-Lake City Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 10, 1929 in Wabasha, the son of Alphonso and Maude (Senn) Koenig. Following his education at St. Felix High School he served in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he returned to Wabasha where he worked at the Big Jo Flour Mill, working for International Multi-Foods. After his retirement from the Flour Mill, he went to work for the Dolphin Canoe Company, designing canoes and managing the operations. He married Dolores Loechler December 26, 1949. Dee died February 6, 1994. Bob married Verna (Cordes) Tackmann June 28, 1996 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City.
 He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was an accomplished woodworker. He enjoyed fishing and hunting as well and he always was ready for a game of cards. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife and family and his many friends.
 Bob is survived by his wife, Verna Koenig, Lake City, MN; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Tamara Koenig, International Falls, MN, Kim Koenig (Lori McCloud), Little Canada, MN, Kevin and Gina Koenig, Minnetonka, MN, Keith and Julie Koenig, Richfield, MN, John and Sue Koenig, Champlin, MN, Paul and Karen Koenig, Lino Lakes, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jason Goeldner, Rhinelander, WI; step-daughters, Sheila (Marvin) Holmstadt, Lake City, MN, Sharon Tackmann (Scott Bender), Lake City, MN, Teresa (Brian) Shones, Elgin, MN; 18 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores, parents, Alphonso and Maude Koenig, brother, Richard Koenig, and sisters, Janice Nicholson and Shirley McDonough.
 A memorial service was held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 11:00am at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lake City with the Reverend Dr. Scott T. Fiege officiating. Honorary bearers were Kathleen Burfeind, Lloyd Hyberger, Willard Fick, Lloyd Roschen, Mert Kohrs, Shon Thieren and Donald Palmer. Interment was in St. Felix Cemetery in Wabasha. Military rites were performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 and the Wabasha Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 4-8pm and at the church on Monday one hour before the service.
