Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Wilson, 96, Wabasha

Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Wilson, age 96, of Wabasha, died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha.
She was born December 6, 1921 in Wabasha, the daughter of August and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Drees. She was a graduate of St. Felix High School and then attended three years of nurses training at Rochester State Hospital. She married Clifford Wilson November 24, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX while he was stationed there in the U. S. Navy during WWII. After his discharge they moved to Wabasha. Betty worked as a registered nurse at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in the obstetrics department for many years and she was also a homemaker. Cliff died April 24, 2004.
Betty was an active member of St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. She was very involved with its Council of Catholic Women, serving as treasurer and as chairwoman of the CCW International Affairs Commission for both the parish and the Diocese of Winona. She also served the parish and school as vice –president of the St. Felix Parent-Teacher Association and as a religious education instructor. Betty was a long-time member of the St. Felix Traditional Choir as well. She was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Hospital Auxiliary, a life member of the Wabasha VFW Post #4086 Auxiliary and a member of the Kellogg American Legion Post #546 Auxiliary.
Her interests included sewing, cooking, traveling, fishing and making quilts and gathering supplies for the missions.
Betty is survived by children and spouses, Anita (Paul) Schouweiler, Kasson, MN, Jerry (Cecilia) Wilson, Miami, FL, Mary (Bill) Murphy, Wabasha, MN, Patricia (Gordon) Rolle, Freeport, Bahamas, Suzanne Cotton (Mark Crozier), Burnsville, MN, Denny Wilson (Shelly Thurber), Wabasha, MN; 12 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; 11 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Dolores Bona, New Brighton, MN; brothers-in-law, Richard Wilson, Wabasha, MN, William (Joy) Wilson, White Bear Lake, MN; sister-in-law, Inez Wilson, Clermont, FL; nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, son, Darrell, grandson, Christian Wilson, great-grandson, Alec Schouweiler, sisters, Margaret Drees, Mary Gasch and Theresa Rose and brother, Joseph Drees.
A funeral Mass was offered on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center Chapel, 1200 5th Grant Blvd. W., in Wabasha with the Reverend Father James Russell officiating. Interment followed at St. Felix Cemetery. Family and friends called at St. Elizabeth’s Chapel from 4-7pm on Friday and one hour before the Mass on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Community Development Foundation, 1200 5th Grant Blvd. W., Wabasha, MN 55981 or to St. Felix Adopt-A-Student program, 130 3rd St. E., Wabasha, MN 55981.
