Elizabeth J. ‘Lib’ Welshons, 84, Wabasha

 Elizabeth J. “Lib” Welshons, age 84, of Wabasha, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Renee, where she had resided since this past September. She was born May 8, 1931 in Hastings, MN, the daughter of Nicholas and Anna (Rohr) Reuter. She married Earl Welshons January 23, 1954 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hastings. Earl worked as a County Highway Engineer and later for MNDOT as a Highway Engineer. The family lived in the communities of Caledonia, MN, Waverly, IA, Dubuque, IA, Winona, MN and Rochester, MN because of his work. The couple moved to Wabasha in June, 1990. Lib was primarily a homemaker, dedicating most of her life to her seven children. Earl preceded her in death April 12, 2010.
 Lib was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also an active member and past president of the Minnesota Button Society for over 40 years. She and Earl were members of the Coffee Mill Golf and Country Club in Wabasha. She was an avid button collector. She loved growing flowers in her many flower gardens and loved decorating her home with her floral arrangements. She also enjoyed playing cards and playing golf.
 She is survived by her children, Joscelyn Welshons, Walcott, IA, George (Peggy) Welshons, Winona, MN, Roger (Jacqueline) Welshons, Woodbury, MN, Erlene Welshons (Brian Hanson), Winona, MN, Renee Gerros (Dustin Vander Weerd), Salem, OR and Rita Welshons, (Victor Toy), Salem, OR; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Rita (Larry) McNamara, Hastings, MN; brother, Paul (Betty) Reuter, Hastings, MN; brother-in-law, Paul Welshons, Hastings, MN; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, one son, Jeffrey, her parents, Nicholas and Anna Reuter, and eight sisters.
 A memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father James Russell officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winona. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 5-8pm and they may call at the church the following day one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha is in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
