Ervin R. ‘Erv’ Dick, 91, Lake City

Ervin R. “Erv” Dick, 91, of Lake City died Sunday, April 15, 2018, at his home. He was born September 25, 1926, in Wabasha, one of 11 children born to Andrew and Mary (Theismann) Dick. He left school and went to work on a bridge crew for the Milwaukee Rail Road to help support his mother and siblings. He then became a line construction worker and had plenty of adventures bringing and restoring power to many places throughout the Midwest.
Erv married Grace Eichhorn on December 27, 1958, at St. Mary’s Church in Lake City. They had two sons, Tim and Pat, who followed in Erv’s footsteps by learning the secrets of how to successfully hunt and fish.
In 1959, Erv began working for the City of Lake City as a lineman and served the city and its residents until 1987. During that time, he also helped his wife Grace, who was the Caretaker at Hok Si La Park until 1993. He was a familiar site on his three-wheeler as he patrolled the park and shared many stories and laughs with the visitors and campers.
Once he retired, he continued to enjoy the great outdoors by hunting, fishing, gardening, and making maple syrup. He spent a lot of time with his grandkids, family and all those who loved his larger than life personality.
He is survived by his sons and daughters in law Tim and Theresa (Reding) of Lake City and Pat and Cindy Taube of Hager City, WI, and grandkids Michelle and Cory Dick; sister Marne (Dick) Lager and brother Eddie Dick.
He was preceded in death by his wife Grace in 2001, and sisters Vera Hielsher and Francis (Dick) Lager, brothers John, Robert, Leo, Tom and Donald.
A graveside service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at 2pm. A Celebration of Life will be at the Lake City Sportsmen’s Club from 4-8pm on Thursday, April 26, located at 2200 S. Oak Street in Lake City.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Pflaum and all the members of the Lake City Family Physicians, St. Elizabeth’s Home Health Care, Alissa Evers, the St. Croix Hospice staff and the volunteers for Meals on Wheels. Each and every one of you helped Erv fulfill his wishes and live out his final days in the comfort of his home.
Special recognition is extended to lifelong friend Bruce Barnum, Tom Kehren, Linda Klein, and Tom and Rose Poss who considered Erv family.
Memorials are preferred to Lake City Environmental Learning Program, PO Box 13, Lake City, MN 55041.
