Florence E. Kennebeck, 101, Wabasha

Florence E. Kennebeck, age 101, of Wabasha, died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at St. Elizabeth’s Nursing Home in Wabasha. She was born December 3, 1917 on the Witte family farm located in Trout Brook Valley, rural Dumfries, to Leo and Gladys (Borst) Witte. She attended country school there in Trout Brook Valley and then attended and graduated from St. Felix Catholic High School in Wabasha in 1935. After high school she attended one year of secretarial school and worked a few years for Martin Healy in his law office. Florence married Herman Kennebeck June 12, 1940 at St. Felix Catholic Church. After marriage Florence was a homemaker raising their children. Herman died December 24, 1998.
Florence was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of the Wabasha American Legion Post #50 Auxiliary. Her interests included collecting, refinishing and caning antique furniture, hunting for agates and polishing them so she could make jewelry pieces, playing cards and baking. She dearly loved her dogs Emory and Rusty.
She is survived by daughter, Suzanne Kennebeck, Elgin, MN; sons, Douglas Kennebeck (Arlene Snider), Wabasha, MN and Neil Kennebeck, La Crescent, MN; six grandchildren, Brian Schad (Donna Norrie), Lucinda Schad, Christopher (Ann) Schad, Rebecca (Chad) Kottschade, Ava Kennebeck (Ben Horn), and Ana Kennebeck (Ryan Sands); ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Kennebeck, Wabasha, MN and Doris Oswald, Santa Clara, CA; one nephew and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman, infant daughter, Lucinda, brother, Robert Witte, and two sisters, Dorothy Graner and Gladys Meincke.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Gregory Parrott and Deacon John Hust officiating. Interment followed at St. Felix Cemetery. Family and friends called at Abbott Funeral Home on Friday, February 15, 2019 from 4-7pm with a prayer service held at 7pm and they called at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to St. Elizabeth’s Community Development Foundation, 1200 5th Grant Blvd. W. or to St. Felix School, 130 3rd St. E., both in Wabasha, MN 55981. The Abbott Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
