John K. Danckwart, 60, Wabasha

 John K. Danckwart, age 60, of Kellogg, died unexpectedly at his farm on Monday, May 22, 2017. He was born December 2, 1956 in Wabasha, the son of John W. and Nelda (Schmoker) Danckwart. John graduated from Wabasha-Kellogg High School in 1975 and then attended Rochester Community College for two years. He married Mary Pat Balow April 29, 1978 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha. John worked in partnership with his father and brother, Bruce, owning and operating Danckwart Feed and Grain in Kellogg. Currently, John was working in a partnership with his son, Travis Danckwart, and Jason Meyer, of Danckwart Landscaping and Excavating also in Kellogg. He also continued to raise poultry and farmed.
 John was very active in his church and community. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, serving on its church council for many years. He served over 30 years on the Wabasha-Kellogg School Board, most recently as chairman and provided countless hours of volunteer time to the school. He was also a member of the Kellogg Lions Club, the Kellogg Sons of the American Legion Post #546 and has been a member of the Kellogg First Responders for the last 31 years.
 His greatest pastime was hunting – primarily waterfowl along with turkey and deer. He also enjoyed boating and fishing the river as often as time allowed. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren whom he adored.
 John is survived by his wife, Mary Pat Danckwart, Kellogg, MN; daughters, Sarah (Jay) Jordan, Minnetonka, MN, Dr. Heather Danckwart, Duluth, MN, Amber (Erik) Becker, Wabasha, MN; son, Travis Danckwart (Karli Harris), Kellogg, MN; four grandchildren, Jonathan Jordan, Aleaya and Evan John Becker, and Sawyer John Danckwart; sister, Jacquelyn (Steve) Rust, Minneapolis, MN; brother, Bruce Danckwart, Kellogg, MN; stepmother, Mary Danckwart, Wabasha, MN; parents-in-law, Eugene and Alvina Balow, Red Wing, MN; sisters-in-law, Kathy (Wayne) Dudley, Lake City, MN, Becky (Bruce) Benrud, Goodhue, MN; brothers-in-law, Tom (Dawn) Balow, Lake City, MN, John (Jill) Balow, Cheyenne, WY, Mike (Donna) Balow, Brighton, MI, David (Laurie) Balow, Lake City, MN, Phil (Jane) Balow, Prior Lake, MN; John also leaves behind a legion of nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nelda Danckwart.
 A funeral service was held on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 11:00am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wabasha with Pastor Dennis Valleau officiating. Interment was at Greenfield Cemetery, rural Kellogg. Casket bearers were Jon, Matt, Byron, Collin and Bill Schmoker, Ron and Jake Walker, and Randy Brushaver. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-8pm and at the church on Monday one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers the family greatly appreciates memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 605 12th St. E., Wabasha, MN 55981.
