Maxine E. Vogt, 89, Indian Creek

Maxine E. Vogt, age 89, of Indian Creek, rural Kellogg, and a lifelong resident of the area, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha. She was born March 23, 1929 in Wabasha, the daughter of Felix and Elda (Boehlke) Klassen. She was a graduate of Plainview High School. She married Arthur Vogt December 23, 1954 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview. The couple lived on the Vogt family farm their entire married lives and where Maxine continued to live after Art’s death. She was a homemaker and she worked many years in the laundry department at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital and the Wabasha Nursing Home. Art died October 27, 2008.
Maxine was an active and lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church serving on the funeral lunch committees and folding the weekly bulletins. She was also a member of the Kellogg American Legion Post #546 Auxiliary. She was an avid card player and she was a volunteer driver. She enjoyed watching the birds at her home also but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and her dear great-granddaughter, Remy.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Diane and John Rivers, Wabasha, MN; son and daughter-in-law, James and Renee Vogt, Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Matthew (Meredith) and Alex Stroot, Kaila and Marissa Vogt; great-granddaughter, Remy Stroot; brother and sisters-in-law, James and Jane Klassen, Plainview, MN, Leona Klassen, Plainview, MN, Carol Daur, Costa Mesa, CA; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, son-in-law, Randy Stroot, sister and brother-in-law, Neola and George Cook, and three brothers, Robert, Everett and William.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:30pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plainview with Pastor Phil Augustine officiating. Interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Plainview. Family and friends called at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday from 4-7pm and at the church on Saturday one hour before the service. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
