Myrtle M. Carlson, 93, Wabasha

 Myrtle M. Carlson, age 93, of Wabasha, formerly of Cloquet, MN, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. She was born December 2, 1921 in Duluth, the daughter of Joseph and Marie (Laverdiere) Fournier. She was a graduate of Denfeld High School in Duluth. She married Wilbert Carlson July 4, 1944 in Paso Robles, CA. Following his discharge from the U.S. Army in 1945 the couple moved to Cloquet where he worked 42 years for the Potlatch Paper Company. Myrtle was a homemaker and she worked for the Diamond Match Company in Cloquet. In retirement the couple wintered in Florida and spent their summers at their cabin at Island Lake, MN. They later spent their summer months in Wabasha to be near their daughters. They moved to Wabasha permanently in 1998. Mr. Carlson died January 2, 2008.
 She enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage, travelling and watching the birds. She especially loved spending the winter in Florida with her husband, enjoying the warmth and the sunshine. Her pleasant demeanor and ever present smile will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her.
 Myrtle is survived by daughters, Judy Arens, Port Orange, FL, Jane Kampa (John) Potter, Plainview, MN; sons, Larry (Kathy) Carlson, Carlton, MN, Scott Carlson, Port Orange, FL; five grandchildren, April Kampa (Nate) Larson, Alexandria, MN, Kyle (Megan) Kampa, Owatonna, MN, Katie Carlson, Bossier City, LA, Joe (Mandy) Arens, Kellogg, MN, Bill (Carli) Arens, Plainview, MN; nine great-grandchildren, Jayce Chap, Ally, Matthew, Cole and Arron Arens, Alex and Jarett Arens, Dillon and Noah Larson; brother, Richard (Katie) Fournier, Minneapolis, MN; nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert, one son, Dale Carlson, her parents, Joseph and Marie Fournier, one great-grandson, Austin William Arens, her son-in-law, Calvin Kampa, and eight brothers and sisters.
 A memorial service was held on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:00am at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Joseph LaPlante officiating. Family and friends called at the funeral home on Monday one hour before the service. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
