Nordean Charles Distad, 87, Wabasha
Nordean Charles Distad, 87, of Wabasha, MN, previously from Rochester MN, passed away Monday July 24th, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN surrounded by his loving family.
Nord was born on November 19, 1929 in Byron, MN to George and Ethel Distad. He met his wife of nearly 61 years, Elaine Warber in the spring of 1953 and were married on September 5th of that year. He is survived by his wife Elaine, daughters Desiree of Galesville, WI; Tammy of Dease Lake, British Columbia, Canada; Kim of Stewartville, MN; and his beloved son Tim of Wabasha, MN. Grandchildren, Jesse Distad of Pequot Lakes, MN; Josh Distad (Ashley Benson) of Turtle Lake, WI; Hanah (Ryan) Fredrickson of Galesville, WI; Tamra (Randy) Hutton of Stewartville, MN and his great-grand children, Tanner, Cody, Carter, Kayla, Evan, Mya, Brayden, Addyson and Chase. Sister Evelyn Bowman of Hayfield, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Irene Hovey, Inez Neve and brother Orin Distad. Nord was a veteran of the Korean War. His passion was for quarter horses, he owned and showed some of the best in Minnesota. He loved to drive. He estimated he drove 11 million miles in his lifetime. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating. He loved to travel to British Columbia with Tammy and Tim. He was a very hard working man and is wholly responsible for instilling his strong work ethic in his children. He worked long past retirement age, finally retiring when he was 84.
There will be no visitation or funeral for Nord per his wishes. Many years ago he committed his remains to the Mayo Clinic for research and teaching. He was an extraordinary guy and he hoped they would be able to identify why and possibly help others to become the same (wink).
There will be a celebration of life in the near future for his family and friends. The family prefers no memorials.
