Robert A. Hartz, 88

The funeral service for Robert A. Hartz, Sr. will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Lake City with Pastor David Badgely officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City, with Military Rites by the Lake City American Legion Post #110 and VFW Post #8729.
Mr. Hartz, 88, of Lake City, passed away at the Baptist Beaumont Hospital in Beaumont, TX on Thursday, September 8, 2016.
Robert was born September 14, 1927, in Cavalier, North Dakota to Jacob and Isabelle (Hearst) Hartz. Robert served his country in the US Army from 1945 to 1948 as a Radio Repairman serving in Italy. He received the Army of Occupation in Italy Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After his military service, he attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota.
Robert married Lucille Grotjohn on August 3, 1962, at Mission Baptist Church in Worthington, MN. They moved to Lake City in 1963. Robert worked most of his working career at Rochester Methodist Hospital in the electrical department, retiring in 1990. After he and Lucille retired, they would spend the winters at their home in Texas. Robert loved to travel until his health wouldn’t allow. He was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Robert is survived by his two children, Jane Hartz, and Robert Hartz, Jr. (fiancée Sherri Dallard) of Lake City; a brother, Willard Hartz of Florida, and a sister, Jean Hartz of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife of 51 years on March 14, 2014, and an infant daughter, Roberta.
Friends and family may visit from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 13, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
