Robert L. ‘Bob’ Peters, 87, Minneiska

 Robert L. “Bob” Peters, age 87, of Minneiska, died of cancer Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha. He was born July 13, 1928 in Winona, the son of Herman and Emma (Ziebell) Peters. He was a graduate of Winona High School and Winona Vocational Technical School.
He then served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in June, 1956. Bob worked as a meat cutter for National Tea and Red Owl in Menomonie and later began his long career as plant manager for Nathe’s Wholesale Meats in Winona. Bob was united in marriage to Rita Gage July 30, 1949 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska. Together they had four children. Rita died December 24, 2001. Bob later married Marjorie Jorgenson at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
 Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming with his nephews, fishing, hunting, gardening and playing cards. He also enjoyed his view of the Mississippi River and watching the boats and barges and especially the eagles.
 He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Jorgenson, Minneiska, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Steve Passe, Aurora, CO; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Debra Peters, Winona, MN, Kevin Peters, Winona, MN; step-children, Bruce (Janine) Jorgenson, Wabasha, MN, Terri (Greg) Thorson, Decorah, IA, Linda Gates, Byron, MN; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Don and Betty Peters, Wabasha, MN; half brother, Ernest “Butch” Kranz, Kellogg, MN; half sisters, Shirley (Jim) Gander, Kellogg, MN, Bonnie (Robert) Prissel, Stockton, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita, son, David Peters and sister, Norma Schmit.
 A funeral Mass was offered on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Minneiska with the Reverend Father William Kulas and the Reverend Father Donald Lovas officiating. Interment was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military rites were performed by the Wabasha American Legion Post #50, the Burkhardt-Roemer VFW Post #4086 and the MNARNG Honor Guard. Casket bearers were nephews, Don, Bill, John, Joe, and Leo Schmit and Jon Peters. Honorary bearers were Cam Mitchell and Clem Wiley. Family and friends called at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday from 4-8pm and at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or to St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center. The Abbott Funeral Home of Wabasha was in charge of arrangements. www.abbottfh.com
