Rose Marie P. ‘Rosie’ Lamey, 78, Wabasha

Rose Marie P. “Rosie” Lamey, age 78, of rural Wabasha, died late Thursday, August 10, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 28, 1939 in Waterville, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Veldonna (Roschen) Johnson. The family moved to the Wabasha-Kellogg area when she was a child. Rosie attended elementary school and high school in Kellogg and graduated from Wabasha High School in 1957 following the closure of Kellogg High School the previous year. After graduation she worked as a bookkeeper for Big Jo Flour Mill in Wabasha for six years. She married George Lamey, Jr. January 14, 1961 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg. They made their home on the Lamey family farm in rural Wabasha. When her children were born she then became a homemaker. After the children were raised she drove kindergarten school bus for 12 years.
She was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She also served several years on the church council. She enjoyed gardening, picking berries that grew on the farm, feeding the birds, playing cards, bingo and scrabble. Rosie was also an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching the Wabasha-Kellogg sports teams and watching and following the Minnesota Lynx. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her many friends. Her ever present smile and pleasing disposition will be missed by all who knew her. She will remain in their hearts forever.
Rosie is survived by her husband, George Lamey, Jr., Wabasha, MN; children, Mary Jo Schwartz (Tom Schultz), Plainview, MN, Tony (Edna) Lamey, Kellogg, MN, Mike Lamey and Paul Lamey, both of Wabasha, MN; four grandchildren, Nicole and Rebecca Lamey, Courtney Schwartz, and Kayla Quick; one great-granddaughter, Paisley Reed; sisters, Louise (Shorty) Johnson, Kellogg, MN, Marilyn (Chuck) Hansen, Eagan, MN, Phyllis (Don) Bittner, Fountain City, WI; brother-in-law, Everett Johnson, Kellogg, MN; sister-in-law, Jeannine (Dave) Flies, Eyota, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by son, James Lamey, parents, Clarence and Veldonna Johnson, sisters, Ilean Stellpflug and Donna Jean Johnson and brothers, Norvan and Steven Johnson.
A funeral Mass will be offered on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg with the Reverend Father Gregory Parrott and Deacon John Hust officiating. A special reading will be recited by niece, the Reverend Cheryl Nymann. Following the Mass her body will be cremated. Interment of her remains will be at St. Agnes Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 8pm and they may call at the church on Wednesday one hour before the Mass. Memorials are preferred to Sharing and Caring Hands, 525 N. 7th St., Minneapolis, MN 55405 or to St. Paul Children’s Hospital 345 Smith Ave. N., St. Paul, MN 55102.
