Shirley Jean Strebbing, 56, formerly of Kellogg

Shirley Jean Strebbing, 56, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 27, 2019, in Port Orange, Florida. After courageously facing and overcoming years of health trials, she was called home to heaven where she will experience complete healing and great rejoicing.
Shirley was born to Shorty and Louise Johnson on November 16, 1962, in Tallahassee, Florida. The oldest of three girls, Shirley spent her growing up years in Kellogg, MN. Shirley was always very ambitious, a great leader and had fantastic determination. After graduating from Wabasha-Kellogg High School, Shirley attended and graduated from Winona State University with a double major in Psychology and Sociology.
While working with the singles ministry in Rochester, MN, Shirley met the love of her life, Dave Strebbing. They married November 27, 1987. Shirley welcomed Dave’s sons, David and Shawn, into her heart and life and gave birth to Peter in 1989. Over the years Shirley and Dave loved over twenty children through foster care and adopted sons Jamie and Daniel. Shirley also had a huge heart and ministry to children and adults with mental and physical challenges.
Shirley worked as a social worker, preschool teacher, adoption advocate, and in many different facets involving the betterment of people. For fun, Shirley loved spending time with her husband, kids and grandkids. She was a fantastic cook and created the favorite, Johnson Family Cookbook. She lovingly compiled favorite recipes from family and friends, which has become a keepsake and most used cookbook in the cupboard. Shirley also penned the book, Conspectant, the life story of her journey of struggling health and healing. If she was with the Johnsons, card playing was a must. She also was great at making and sending cards to whomever needed their day brightened.
In 2008 Dave and Shirley made a move to Texas where they enjoyed the warm weather, motorcycle trips, and many friends. This last year they moved to Port Orange, Florida where she enjoyed having her son, Peter, stop over and having Jamie’s children join her for playtime with Grandma. More than anything Shirley loved Jesus, wanted to serve Him and wanted others to know of His love.
Shirley left behind her best friend and husband, Dave Strebbing. Her sons are David and (Melanie), Shawn and (Sarah), Peter, and Daniel. The grandchildren are Ethan, Logan, Caden, Aryka, Alyssa, Charlotte, Lyla, Patrick, Tionis, Tyler and Tate. Her parents are Shorty and Louise Johnson and sisters Karen (Layne) Benson and Vicki (Caz) Johnson-Calzadilla and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by son Jamie.
A memorial service is being held in Port Orange, Florida and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Kellogg, MN.
