Shirley A. Loechler, 77, Wabasha

 Shirley A. Loechler, age 77, of Wabasha, died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 14, 1938 at home in West Albany, the daughter of Lester and Florence (Franke) Funk. She graduated from St. Felix High School in 1956. Shirley married Eugene Loechler June 1, 1957 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha. Shirley was a homemaker for her husband and their eight children. She also worked as a cook at the Idle Hour Restaurant and Slippery’s, as a cook and baker at the Anderson House and she was a cook in the kitchen at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, all located in Wabasha. Eugene died January 30, 2013.
 She was a member of St. Felix Catholic Church and its Council of Catholic Women. She enjoyed playing bingo, camping, baking, arts and crafts and especially spending time with her family.
 Shirley is survived by her children and their spouses, Rebecca Rietmann, Wabasha, MN, Kevin and Kimberly Loechler, Elgin, MN, Wanda and David Lee, Susan and Pat Halverson, Sandra Richards and fiancé, Kevin Schmidt, all of Kellogg, MN, Thomas Loechler, Mary and Edward Hartert, Melissa Loechler and Thomas Robelia, all of Wabasha, MN; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Funk, Marietta Kohn and Lois Loechler, all of Wabasha, MN and Janice (Gerald) Owen, Stewartville, MN; aunt, Ramona Kanz, Wabasha, MN; nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene, parents, Lester and Florence Funk, brother, Lester “Wes” Funk, son-in-law, Rodney Rietmann, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Eleanor and Stanley Klavetter, Norman and Patricia Loechler and Sam Kohn.
 A memorial Mass will be offered on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Monsignor Thomas Cook officiating. Interment will be in St. Felix Cemetery. Honorary bearers will be her granddaughters, Amy Lavigne, Jean Wills, Michelle Richards, Jacqueline Ross, Angela Richards, Gabrielle Loechler, Tatiana Robelia, Heather Loechler, Midoree Robelia, Kelsey Hartert, and her grandsons, Matthew Rietmann, Daniel “Bucky” Richards, Michael Halverson, Holden Hartert, Justin Hartert, Thomas Loechler, and Alex Loechler. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-8pm and at the church on Thursday one hour before the Mass.
