Thomas L. Joyce, 61, Wabasha

 Thomas L. Joyce, age 61, of Wabasha, died Friday, May 19, 2017 at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Wabasha surrounded by his loving family following a two year battle with cancer. He was born January 4, 1956 in Rochester, the son of James and Irene (Kocer) Joyce. During high school in Rochester he worked for Leon Joyce Construction of Rochester. In 1984 he began his career working for Lunda Construction of Black River Falls, WI. He was a crane operator for Lunda building bridges throughout the Upper Midwest, working for them for over 30+ years. He retired in 2015. He married the former Patty (Giem) Hintzman September 26, 2015 in Wabasha.
 Tom was a member of the 49’ers Operating Engineers Union. He dearly loved his work, the people he worked with and he was proud of his accomplishments. He also loved the Mississippi River where he boated, swam, water skied and parasailed. He loved deer hunting every fall as well. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their home on the river and he enjoyed observing the many eagles that would perch in the nearby trees and soar overhead. He enjoyed blowing off fireworks every 4th of July with them as well.
 Tom is survived by his wife, Patty Joyce, Wabasha, MN; his siblings, Roberta (Ron) Kurth, Elgin, MN, Brenda Joyce (Jim Derrick), Rio Rancho, NM, Greg (Patty) Joyce, Hastings, MN, Kevin (Denise) Joyce, Richard (Nancy) Joyce, and Debbie Joyce-Hust, all of Rochester, MN; seven nieces and three nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Patty’s family, Don Giem (Lorraine Allen), Osseo, WI, Kay (Dick) Olson, Goodhue, MN, Laura (Darryl) Webster, Cannon Falls, MN, Bob (Dixie) Giem, Kellogg, MN, Jerry Giem (Cathee Manley), Rochester, MN, Judith Elliott, Winona, MN, Mary (Butch) Gady, LaCrescent, MN, Joe (Carol) Giem, Kellogg, MN, Joanie (Jerry) Stein, Kellogg, MN; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Irene Joyce, brother-in-law, Robert Hust, and Patty’s parents, Leo and Rachel Giem, her sister, Barb Wagner and her brother, Peter Giem.
 A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kellogg with the Reverend Gregory Parrott and Deacon John Hust officiating. Interment will be at St. Agnes Cemetery. Casket bearers will be nephews. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Wednesday from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 8pm and they may call at the church on Thursday one hour before the Mass.
