Timothy J. Solem, 61, Alexandria, MN

Timothy J. Solem, age 61, of Alexandria, MN, left this earth for his heavenly home May 26, 2018. Tim was born to John (Ry) and Phyllis Solem on June 26, 1956 in Windom, Minnesota. In 1956, Tim’s family moved to Rochester, Minnesota where Tim grew up.
Tim was a dreamer, a leader, a free spirit. He was charming and handsome. He was a legend in the carnival business and he was the founder of Solem Amusements. He traveled America with his business, making many life-long friends and employing people who were down on their luck. Tim had a great heart. He was a very generous man who would literally give away the clothes off his back. He liked to make sure small children and disabled people would win big at his carnival games. We will never know how many people Tim helped because he preferred to keep it quiet. He followed his father’s rule that the greatest acts of kindness are those done quietly.
Tim had his father’s gift of gab. He was a smooth talker and a charmer. He loved Harleys, bikers, Corvettes, Bailey Irish Cream, Heineken, his family and friends. He was proud of his service to his county as a United States Marine. Tim’s untimely passing has left the world a less colorful and exciting place. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Tim was a loving father to his five children, Jeremy Solem of Rochester, Minnesota and Colton, Sarah, Emily and Natalie Solem, all of St. Louis, Missouri. He was the proud grandfather of Olivia and Preston Solem of Rochester, Minnesota. He adored his grandchildren and his ten nieces and nephews. Tim is also survived by his siblings, Pat (Jeff) Dinham of Alexandria, Minnesota, Kevin (Kathy) Solem of Fountain City, Wisconsin and Mary (Moustafa) Kamel of Rochester, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ry and Phyllis, his sister and brother-in-law, Karen and James White, and his nephew, Ryland Kamel.
A funeral service will be offered on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 1:30pm at Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha with Deacon John Hust of St. Felix Catholic Church officiating.
