Viola O’Flaherty, 100, LaCrescent

Viola O’Flaherty, age 100, died peacefully July 1, 2015, in La Crescent.
Viola was born to Joseph H. and Helen (Rother) Roemer March 15, 1915, in Theilman, Minnesota. After graduation from St. Felix High School in Wabasha, she attended St. Teresa’s College in Winona, Minnesota. She married Joseph Gerard O’Flaherty in 1939. In 1940 they opened O’Flaherty’s Hardware in Caledonia, Minnesota, which they operated for more than 30 years. They also owned and operated the hardware store in Hokah, Minnesota. In 1950 they purchased their residence on Shore Acres in La Crescent. Viola enjoyed fishing and hunting. She was active in church organizations and community activities.
Viola is survived by her son, Gerard (Angela); grandchildren, Sean, Katie (Brian), Mary, Patrick and Erin; and great-grandchildren, Emma, Fiona, Joseph, Bridget and Colleen.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her daughter, Helen; and her parents.
A memorial Mass was held July 13, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Marian Chapel, La Crosse. Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family.
