William S. ‘Bill’ Meurer, 63, Wabasha

 William S. “Bill” Meurer, age 63, of Wabasha, died peacefully at his home on Thursday, February 23, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born November 19, 1953 in Wabasha, the son of Otto and Bernice (Hetrick) Meurer. He graduated from Wabasha High School in 1972 and then attended Winona Vocational Technical Institute graduating with a carpentry degree in 1974. He married Barbara Balow on May 25, 1974 at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha.
 Bill’s employment history was working with his brother at Rich’s Marigold, Jim Roemer Construction, Rich Binner Construction, Gene Carrels Construction, Wabasha United Building Center and International Multi-foods in Wabasha. Since1988 he and Barb owned and operated the Woodshop Boutique in Wabasha. Bill enjoyed working with wood and creating many one of a kind pieces. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandson, Tyler.
 He is survived by his wife, Barb Meurer, Wabasha, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Nathan Risler, Mondovi, WI; son, Jeffrey Meurer (Erin Murphy), Wabasha, MN; grandson, Tyler Freiermuth, Mondovi, WI; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Skip Meurer, Wabasha, MN, Fred and Linda Meurer, Lake City, MN, Gloria Meurer and LaVonne Meurer, both of Wabasha, MN; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen Willers, Lake City, MN, Sue and Richard Reed, Lake City, MN; Barb’s sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Art Hanson, Wabasha, MN, Kathy and Chuck Jacobson, Valley City, ND, Bonnie and Dale Gibbs and Jerry McNallan, Wabasha, MN; her brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Leann Balow, Rochester, MN, Jim and Teresa Balow, Wabasha, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bernice Meurer, brothers, Robert and Roger Meurer, nephew, Barry Meurer, niece, Carol Meurer, brothers-in-law, Keith Willers and David Koopman and sister-in-law, Judy McNallan.
 A memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00am at St. Felix Catholic Church in Wabasha with the Reverend Father Gregory Parrott officiating. Interment will be at a later date. Honorary bearers will be nephews, Derick, Randy, Corey and Kevin Meurer, Mark Willers, and Zack Reed, and friends, Mike Streveler and Aaron Evers. Following the Mass a meal will be served at the Wabasha VFW Club. Family and friends may call at the Abbott Funeral Home in Wabasha on Friday from 4-8pm and at the church on Saturday one hour before the Mass.
