Durand girls improve to 13-1 on season

The Durand girls basketball team took three wins in the last week, improving to 12-1 on the season overall. The week of victories began January 13 with a 50-29 win over Somerset.
The Panthers got an early lead, outscoring Somerset 17-6 in the first quarter.
The Panthers put up another 9 in the second and held Somerset to 7 to take a 26-13 lead at the half.
The Panthers tallied 11 in the third quarter while holding Somerset scoreless, and put up 13 to Somerset’s 16 in the fourth.
The Panthers moved forward with a 50-29 Middle Border Conference win.
Morganne Gruber led with 21 points, followed by Whitney Tomlinson with 16. Gruber and Tomlinson also led with 8 rebounds each.
Ambree Schlosser and Marisa Koller each added 5 rebounds for the Panthers, and Schlosser tallied 6 steals, while Tomlinson added 4.
The Panthers shot 16 of 37 in the field, and sank 3 of 8 attempted 3-pointers. They went 15-for-25 from the line.
Gruber shot 7-for-9 from the line, followed by Koller at 3-for-6. Tomlinson shot 2-for-4.
The Panthers totaled 37 rebounds, 10 assists, and 14 steals, while suffering 15 turnovers.
The Panthers hosted Amery on January 16, and took a 40-26 win.
Gruber led with 16 points, followed by Schlosser with 9, and Mandy Wegener with 7. Tomlinson added 5.
Tomlinson led with 6 rebounds, followed by Gruber with 4. Tomlinson also dished out 4 assists. Schlosser tallied 3 steals.
The Panthers shot 13 of 35 field goals, and sank 6 of 13 attempted 3-pointers. They shot 8-for-14 from the line.
Tomlinson shot 2-for-2 from the line. Gruber went 4-for-7, and Schlosser 2-for-5.
The Panthers totaled 21 rebounds, 12 assists, and 8 steals, and suffered 4 turnovers.
The Panthers hosted Dunn-St. Croix rivals Elk Mound (8-1) on Tuesday, and defeated the Mounders 62-39.
Durand outscored Elk Mound 19-12 in the first quarter, and tied at 13 in the second to take a 32-25 lead at the half.
The third quarter went to the Panthers, as they outscored Elk Mound 22-7 to extend their lead.
Durand put up 8 in the fourth quarter over Elk Mound’s 7 to seal the deal, 62-39.
Gruber led the Panthers with 20 points, followed by Tomlinson with 12, and Schlosser with 11.
The Panthers shot 9-for-9 from the line.
The Panthers are now 8-0 in the Middle Border Conference, and 13-1 overall. They have a break until January 27, when the Panthers visit New Richmond.
