Jane Marie Longseth

Jane Marie Longseth, 85, of rural Independence, WI passed away peacefully at Mayo Health Systems of Eau Claire on Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
Jane was born on February 26, 1936, to Nick and May (Veraguth) Mattausch. Jane’s ancestors emigrated from Austria, Switzerland and Germany.
Jane started school in 1942, at the Praag School, where she learned English because only German was spoken at home. She later attended the Whelan School and the Gilmanton High School. Jane was in 4-H and sewed dresses for the fair. Jane loved music. She played clarinet and alto saxophone in the school band. She also played piano, was an organist at Evanger Lutheran Church, and played piano and taught Sunday School for Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
In 1952, a friend set Jane up with Marshall Longseth on a blind date, it was love at first sight, and they were later engaged. In 1953, Marshall was drafted into the Army. Marshall came home on furlough and married Jane on July 17, 1953. Immediately following they moved to Manhattan, Kansas, until Marshall was honorably discharged from the Army in 1955. The happy couple then started farming on the Longseth farm.
They raised six children: Vicki (Patrick) Langreck, Marshfield, WI, Kevin (Cindy Sue) Longseth (Blair, WI), Cindy (Gaylord) Peterson (Blair, WI), Kristi (Theodore) Casey (New Richmond), Mark Longseth (Independence, WI) and Lori (Timothy) Nyberg (River Falls, WI). Jane was loved by her 8 grandchildren: Janae Langreck, Treani (AJ) Fedie, Marcia Longseth, Mara Peterson, Julianna Casey, Margaret Casey, Dakota Nyberg and Owen Nyberg and 2 great-grandchildren: Jade and Rylie Fedie; and brother Bill (Kathie) Mattausch.
What her children remember about her most was her kind heart and non-judgmental attitude. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Duane (January 30, 2004) and son Mark Marshall (January 31, 2021).
A visitation will be at Talbot Family Funeral Homes on May 2, 2021, at 4:00 -6:00PM and again at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Monday, May 3, 2021, at 12:00PM until the time of service at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at Evanger Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Independence.
Current COVID guidelines will be followed. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.talbotfuneralhomes.com.
