Leebo’s Bar torn down following fire

Firefighters sprayed water on the wreckage to knock down dust and douse any hot spots as a backhoe exposed the interior of Leebo’s Bar & Grill in downtown Gilmanton. Due to the nature of the fire early Thursday, June 6, authorities said the building had to be torn down.

The exterior walls of the tavern were collapsed inward by a backhoe as demolition work continued Thursday afternoon.

A backhoe operated by Kendall Klevgard worked for several hours to demolish the bar Thursday afternoon.

Mondovi firefighters sprayed water on the interior of Leebo’s Bar & Grill as the walls were peeled away.

The backhoe broke through the south wall as work to tear down the century-old Gilmanton building that housed Leebo’s and several apartments continued.

The sign was saved from Leebo’s Bar & Grill. Owner Lee Evanson is hoping to rebuild the bar.

Firefighters entered the bar in downtown Gilmanton after smoke was reported around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 6.
