Bernice Marie Quandt

Bernice Marie Quandt, age 100, of Plainview, Minnesota, passed away on September 29, 2026, at Green Prairie Assisted Living.
Bernice was born on December 11, 1925, in La Moille, Minnesota to parents Arthur and Katherine (Strupp) Wilson. She went through the 8th grade in La Crescent School and worked as a waitress in both La Crescent and Stewartville. On October 18, 1945, she married Melford Smith and the couple had four children. They later divorced. Bernice found love again and married Everett Quandt, October 1st, 1957. They had one daughter. Everett preceded her in death in 1982 and their daughter in 1999.
Bernice enjoyed ice skating in her younger years. She watched Wheel of Fortune and The Price is Right each day and loved gardening, baking, flowers and visits from family. Bernice was a sassy lady and kept the girls at Green Prairie on their toes. Her family enjoyed her little giggle when she knew she was being “difficult”.
Bernice is survived by her children, Bruce (Nancy) Smith, Ricky Smith, Diane Smith, and Robert Smith; 12 grandchildren, Chad Smith, Jacki (Jay) Scherbring, Danielle (Lincoln) Tlougan, Jessica (Brad) Lasack, Chris Hall (Karma), Patrick Smith, Sam Smith (Missy), Justin Smith (Kat), Katie (Frankie) Wittlief, Bobby Smith, Sandi Mullen and Dallas Smith. 25 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and 1 brother, Rolland; She was preceded in death by her parents; 6 of her 7 siblings; her ex-husband, Melford Smith; husband Everett Quandt; her daughter, Debra Hall; special friend, Wels Staudacher and daughter-in-law, Jane Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026, at Schad & Zabel Funeral Home in Plainview. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester. A celebration of life will be held in the back room of Kim’s Saloon after the service until 5 pm.
